WINTERIZATION / FALL BLOW OUT
If you are a new owner of an irrigation system, you might be asking: “what is this and do I need to do this?”
The purpose of winterization is to eliminate water from the irrigation system pipes. If too much water is left in the pipes during the cold winter weather, the water will freeze and expand, bursting your pipes and damaging your nozzles.
So we “blow out” the system with compressed air, shut down the water and prepare the system for winter. Why hire us to do it? Smith Lawn Services uses a smaller compressor (many of the companies out there use the giant tow-behind units intended for commercial-sized pipes). Many of the repairs we do in spring are a direct result of other companies’ improper winterizing in the fall. Too much PSI, staff without enough training, and a rushed schedule with a quota to fill are all culprits.
Don’t take a chance that will cost you hundreds of dollars in the spring! We are licensed, certified, experienced professionals that you can count on.

BACKFLOW ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT
At this time, we do NOT offer backflow tests. We recommend Loren at Certified Backflow.
In the past, we have offered backflow testing and we have worked with local water districts and agencies. We have undergone the testing through the State Department of Health. We are educated and experienced in the intricacies of backflow units – we simply made a strategic decision as a business to no longer offer backflow testing as a service.
We DO offer backflow replacement service. If your test comes back to indicate your backflow unit needs to be replaced, you will be told that the unit needs to be replaced and then the technician will return to re-test it. You will need to replace your backflow unit in order to report to the water purveyor that you are adhering to code. Failing to replace a faulty backflow unit jeopardizes the public main water supply.
We realize that often you are working with a tight timeframe. Most often, we can replace your backflow unit within 48 hours.
SPRING START-UP SERVICES
The last deep freeze of winter is behind us and you're wondering when your irrigation system should be turned back on. Maybe you're wondering if you've had any burst pipes over those cold snaps we had. Or maybe you're thinking this year you want the sprinklers to be more water-efficient (no more watering the driveway and sidewalk). For one flat fee based on the size of your system, we'll perform a Spring Start-up on your system, which includes:
REPLACEMENT PARTS, SERVICE AND REPAIR
We have a flat fee of $75 for diagnostic repair beyond the services listed here, and any repairs we are able to do within that time frame are included at no charge. Minor parts are included in this flat fee.
